The photographs below and on the other two Soapstone pages represent several of my owls currently for sale. Many of my owls are freestanding. Those on bases are pinned and epoxy glued to the base for added durability. I should have all of the owls not marked "SOLD," but once in a while, I forget to mark one. Watch this site for periodic updates. And remember, these are all one-of-a-kind, so don't expect, look for, or want to order a duplicate. The  label next to an owl reflects the fact that the owl is new to the Web site. It is usually a new carving, too, but not necessarily. E-mail me for terms.

NOTE: If you have any large pieces, 20 pounds or more, of Montana dendritic soapstone, I will pay top price.

DINNER AT
THE HARD ROCK

A slab of beautiful dendritic soapstone hid a few surprises  besides this owl. After making good progress, I ran into an occlusion (impurity), so looking directly at the owl from the left end, the body appears a bit thin. (This would be under the wing shown in this photo) Perhaps "dinner" will change that over time. It still is unique in many ways. A couple more photos will be up shortly.

The piece is 13" high, 11.5" wide, and 4.25" deep. I didn't feel this one needed a base, but one could be fashioned if the buyer wishes.

Sorry, SOLD

SOAPSTONE #1C

This stoic owl was hidden in my last piece of East Indian soapstone. It is almost white with some purplish markings here and there. I hope to find more of this stone since it holds detail very well and, like the dendritic soapstone, it is soft enough to carve without power tools.

The owl is 8.25" high and is mounted on a 5" x 5" x 2" cherry base.

Price: $1,795.00

Half-hiding behind a wing, this owl is a fine example of dendritic soapstone. The coloring is a little more subtle than the photos show. It is carved on three sides with the back smooth and polished. He is about 3.5" high, 3" wide and stands about 2.75" high.75.00

No matter which way you look at this owl,  you have to notice the angular shape. This is a "no nonsense" owl, I think. But its rather stern expression is outweighed by the beauty of the dendritic soapstone. Standing on a dark-stained oak base, the back of the owl is smooth and polished. The owl is 4.25" high on the 2.5" square x 1" oak base.

Another triangular block of oak seems to be a perfect perch for this owl. Abstract, yes, but still recognizable as an owl, this one was fun to carve. The owl is 3.25" x 3" wide x 1" deep and sitting on its oak base, 4.5" x 2" x 1" high.

This poor owl has never been on my Web site and has only seen the light of day at art fairs. It is my oldest piece, having been carved in 1996! Personally, I still like it and feel it has a solid, masculine appearance. The larger photos show it better.

Standing 5+" high, it is 5" wide, and 2" thick with a polished back.(There is one speck of iron on the back.) Its oak base is 1.75" high, 5" long and 2.75" deep

If you could see this owl in person, you would think it was trying to imitate Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Its sleek form makes it appear to be in a power dive. This owl is carved from a nice piece of East Indian soapstone, the last of my supply.

The owl is only 1" high and 1.75" wide, but it is 4.75" long. Check out the larger photos. It could also look nice on a slanted, angular base.

It's always fun to discover the owl in a piece of this Montana soapstone. This owl has a nice mix of dendrites and swirls, and the overall coloring is wonderful.

The owl is 3.75" high, 3" wide, and 1.25" deep. The cherry base is 3 " x 2" x 1". The back is smooth and polished.

Unlike Soapstone Owl #15 on Page 1, this owl is very angular. The detail is much finer than the photos show but the dendritic pattern turned out just about perfect, considering I have no control over where the dendrites will be.

UTAH

We have returned to our SLC office this morning from our Virginia office. We knew that "the owl" had arrived and were very excited to get to open the THREE boxes. I don't have to tell you that he arrived in fine shape.....and is still as beautiful as ever. I am anxious to take him to his new home and am hoping that my husband does not want to keep him here in our office.  We will take very good care of our new "pet".
Thanks again, Bev
PS  Thanks for the very excellent "opening the owl" instructions.  I think you must love him as much as we do!!!!

Although nicely carved, the detail just doesn't show up with my meager photographic skills. The larger photos show it off a bit better. It is a nice piece of dendritic soapstone. The owl is carved on two and the back and other side are smooth and polished. This . It is 4.5" high x 4.5" wide x 3.25" deep. The walnut base is 1.75" high, 5" long, and 2.75"deep.

The owl is mounted on another piece of wood on a grasscloth-type background. It is over 3.75" high, 3" wide, and3" deep. The iron, mixed in the soapstone, gives it a pale, golden color, but the dendritic pattern is still nice.
