The photographs below and on the other two Soapstone pages represent several of my owls currently for sale. Many of my owls are freestanding. Those on bases are pinned and epoxy glued to the base for added durability. I should have all of the owls not marked "SOLD," but once in a while, I forget to mark one. Watch this site for periodic updates. And remember, these are all one-of-a-kind, so don't expect, look for, or want to order a duplicate. The  label next to an owl reflects the fact that the owl is new to the Web site. It is usually a new carving, too, but not necessarily. LAYAWAYS are possible. E-mail me for terms.

NOTE: If you have any large pieces, 20 pounds or more, of Montana dendritic soapstone, I will pay top price.

SOAPSTONE #1F

Carved from a beautiful piece of dendritic soapstone, this owl would love to sit around your home or office to keep an eye on things. As you can see, it is looking up, so a lower perch would be best. A photograph with me working on this owl can be found in the article about me in the Arts section of The Wisconsin State Journal, February 26, 2006. It is carved all the way around and is 8" high on a 4" x 4" x 4" oak base.

Another signature piece with half the owl's face hiding behind a wing, this is a nice example of Montana dendritic soapstone.

As the larger photos show, this owl is primarily carved on the front, and the back is smooth and polished. The piece stands 5.75 " high, and is 2.75 wide. It is mounted on a dark-stained cherry base that is a 2" cube.

The owl is absolutely stunning. Every time I unwrap one of your owls I get the same feeling I have since buying my first one from you. The detail and beauty just makes me so appreciative of your talent that allows me to enjoy my love of the best raptor of all. Now, before I get too maudlin and it goes to your head, I'll just say thank you for my latest owl, dear Clarence, and for being my Owlman.

The flat areas on this owl intrigued me, and I hope you like the way it came out of the stone. It has a rather "sweet" face, if there is such a thing for an owl. The dendrites make it an interesting carving.

The owl is 3" high and carved all the way around. The entire piece is 4" high with its dark-stained oak base, 3" x 2" x 1"

Obviously, there are a lot of dendrites on this owl. I have no control over that, as the dendrites come and go as one carves, and I never know where they will end up on a piece.

The sculpture is a bit over 4" high and 2 "wide and deep. It sits on a cherry base, 2" x 2" x 1 " high, and peers out from behind a wing.

From a very nice piece of Montana  dendritic soapstone, this owl barely found a place to roost. The sculpture sort of "overflows" the base, as the larger photos illustrate. Hello, Mr. Cameron,
I wanted to let you know that the #9 pewter owl arrived safe and sound yesterday.  It is very nice--even more impressive "in person" than in the

The owl remains a bit mystical with that large wing over one eye. He has a rather quizzical look but, at the same time, a "don't mess with me" attitude. Nice dendrites and subtle coloring make him a charmer. He is 3" high, 3.5" wide and 2.75" deep.

The base is oak and 3" square and 2" high. He definitely has attitude and is carved all the way around.

Every once in a while I end up with a weird owl. This one can't get much lower to the ground. Did you ever put your ear on a railroad track to listen for a train? Maybe this bird is listening for a mouse. Carved from Montana dendritic soapstone, he has very interesting coloration with the manganese in dendrites and swirls. A splotch of iron, here and there, adds even more interest. The back is polished smooth, and the owl is 4" wide, 1.75" deep, and 2" high.

NEWSOAPSTONE #17F

It was a strangely shaped piece of stone, and I couldn't resist finding some kind of owl in it. It turned out to be a unique conversation piece, and a lovable little owl, besides. The most pronounced dendrites are the ones shown above the left eye. There are a couple of other places on the owl where the manganese mixed with the stone rather than forming the distinct dendrites. She (and I don't know how I know that) is carved all around.

The owl is about 1.5" high, 2.75" wide, and 3" deep. It is mounted on a dark stained oak base that is 3.5" wide, 4" deep and .75" high.

I am not certain what this owl is trying to say with its wings hunched up in that strange posture. It did choose to express itself, and all I did was reveal it in the stone. The piece is 5.75" high and is carved all around. It is mounted on a 3" square x 2" high cherry-stained oak base.

It is very seldom, now, that I come across a piece of dendritic soapstone that is, as the ladies call it, "mauve." (I only see pink) Geologists have told me that this "pink" is also caused by the manganese that forms the dendrites, but it just was not concentrated enough to form the usual mossy pattern. There are, however, some tiny dendrites here and there on the piece. The largest piece of this color was my 1995 Birds in Art owl, Impressions on a Winter's Eve

Such a dominant pose for such a small owl. He stands 2.75" high and is about 3" wide. The owl is 2" deep, and the back is smooth and polished. He is mounted on a cherry base that is 3" x 2" x 1".
